I’m goin’ and I ain’t comin’ back…

Song/lyrics by Bill Browing:

I’d rather be in some dark hollow (note 1)
Where the sun don’t ever shine
Than to be in some big city
In a small room with a girl on my mind (note 2)

So blow your whistle freight train
Take me far on down the track
I’m going away, I’m leaving today
I’m going but I ain’t coming back

I’d rather be in some dark hollow (note 3)
Where the sun don’t ever shine
Than to see you another man’s darling
And to know that you’ll never be mine

I’d rather be in some dark hollow
Where the sun don’t ever shine
Than to be home alone, knowing that you’re gone
Would cause me to lose my mind

I’m going away, I’m leaving today
Well I’m going, but I ain’t coming back

Always in my top 5 favorites in the old-timey country field. Lived it. Felt it. Lived it again and didn’t learn a damn thing. Probably do it again. That says something about a man and depending on the angle you look at it, that could be good or bad. Or it could be a little bit of both. That’s more the way I’ve gotten to thinking about it.

Big ol’ awkward man with a big ol’ awkward heart and this song always comes into my head when it’s time to get on a train somewhere. Get to thinking while standing in line that maybe the ticket should be one way and maybe it will be. Don’t even take it so hard. Sometimes it just gets to be time to moving on when you’ve done everything that there is to do in a place, and some days it gets to feeling that way.

This big ol’ awkward man is only going one way anyway.
