Did I wake up with this song in my head? Not really sure but it’s a mood. It’s a vibe. It’s barely controlled chaos and it seems to fit the zeitgeist of the early days of a new year and a new decade. Dondi Fucktrumpet bypassed Congress and greased a high-level Iranian general, supposedly in response to recent tampering with anti-American types in Iraq and before that Syria. Who fucking knows really? There has been a lot of talk in the last 48 hours though of World War 3, or at least a freshly renewed Gulf War. This song was released during the first Gulf War so why not let it be the soundtrack for another? Who the fuck knows? Fuckhead wanted his own war and his own glory and it looks like he’ll have the former at the least. Glory is a subjective word, isn’t it?
World War 3? I highly doubt it’s going to kick off in the immediate future, but this sure stirred the pot. This sure isn’t going to generate any good faith in the world. It’s mostly manifested so far in very dark humor (very fucking dark) but there may be a hit of truth. The only certainty is that no matter the outcome, we (on this side of the world) aren’t getting out of this with any integrity. Maybe we deserve what we get. We can’t feel too sorry for ourselves. We could have stopped it were we not so caught up in selfies and dodgy fashion and pop culture.
Not that I’m about to give up on my New Year resolutions. Have to get through this with my balls intact. Small consolation, but whatever. That’s my part. I’ll hang up my virtual Live Love Laugh framed needlepoint and greet the day.
