You might call this the Argument of the Day. I’m going to call this an appendix to the previous post.

We speak in absolutist terms when we talk about morality and all the qualities that make us human. All our actions, however, stand as proof that morality and the very idea of our own humanity is entirely relative and situational. I will in some form, over coming months, offer evidence. You might want to try to change my mind in the meanwhile, but come large if you come at all.

Shoutout in the short term to Joaquin Phoenix’s character study with The Joker.

Question the continuation of the Cold War era argument between preserving the rights of the individual and the value of collectivism? Is morality really just about freedom of choice? Was The Borg, in Star Trek The Next Generation without moral direction simply because they assimilated beings against their will? Might people have volunteered for assimilation if certain values were explained fully?

Was Smith wrong in The Matrix when he called humans a virus? Was he talking about humanity or simply about individualism above collective good?
