COVID-19, part 10

We might start with talking about conditional morality, and individual rights vs. Collective well-being. A month ago it would have seemed unthinkable to enforce a containment zone in the North Bronx and Westchester Counties to stem the spread of the Corona Virus. That is exactly what the Governor has done though and the National Guard has been called in to enforce and assist the efforts.

I’m sure those outside the zone are nearly unanimous in their support, believing it more than reasonable. The morality and ethics of the move may be viewed differently inside the zone. This is the first such action in the country and maybe the first in American history but that is surely a dubious honor.

My personal view is that it is neither moral nor immoral. It’s just sensible and practical. We are all going to have to just suck up the inconveniences of change.

The F train is suspiciously uncrowded these last couple days. That may be because it navigates more affluent and privileged areas where it might be easier for people to work from home or maybe put work aside altogether. I can’t really say. These are only observations and I observe that it’s rare for my train to reach Fort Hamilton Parkway with each car half full at most.

We need theme music for just this moment. Maybe the theme from the gameshow Jeopardy, or even the quiz show 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. Where will the next containment zone be?
