Stepping outside my usual dire, dour morning fare today for something I clicked on because of the image. It really is just like record shopping back in the day. I’m not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t upbeat power pop. The descriptions on the intertoobz call it shoegaze and post-hardcore but that doesn’t seem right to me. It reminds me most of New Pornographers, but in Japanese. It is decidedly not the J-pop or K-pop we’re being fed a constant loop of now. MASS OF FERMENTING DREGS has been around for a minute though so they’ve had their own thing going since way back. They’re a bright spot today. Not that it’s a dark day by any stretch, not the weather, nor my mood. This is just the sort of pop music that’s always grabbed me. So shout out from Kobe, Japan…
