The background, and a bit of culture, yiz mugz! “Yōkai ( 妖怪 / ようかい ) are a class of supernatural monsters, spirits and demons from Japanese folklore. Yōkai range eclectically from the malevolent to the mischievous, or occasionally bring good fortune to those who encounter them. Some of the most famous Yōkai in animal form include: Tanuki, Kitsune, Inugami, and Kappa.”
I’ve heard mixes from Mr. Momo before and they’re always fresh and new to me. Always a mood. This one seems perfect for a snowy Thursday morning. It’s stopped falling but the fresh blanket of powder over the leftovers from earlier in the week offer up a shapeless world without corners. The softness on the top conceals the hardpack and sharp ice below. It’s a lot like this mix, really. It’s deceiving, kind of chill but not easy. There’s a dangerous edge, much like the Yokai, full of mischief. You don’t know exactly what it’s bringing. It comes in kind of mellow but there’s always a fear you’ll bust your ass.
Sometimes it be’s that way, Papi… that’s what Pachanga told Carlito and it’s still probably one of the single best one-liners in film history. Don’t be surprised that there are surprises along the path, even if you walk that way every single fucking day.
The Yokai definitely have a sense of humor.
