Radio Quarantine -EXEK – Good Thing They Ripped Up The Carpet (2021)

Happy happy to find that EXEK has released new music (along with a side order of older recordings but it’s all new to me). I’d no idea they existed before a few months ago but that’s how it goes. It’s a big world. They’re an odd lot though and there seems to be some varied influences, like perhaps some Clash dubplates on earlier releases, or maybe Big Audio Dynamite… and this one reminds me somehow of Robyn Hitchcock at points. At the same time though it’s really their own thing they have happening and there is no one else that sounds like them. No sense really in trying to sort it out. Listening is free and you can decide for yourself if you like it or not. They are definitely up there in my favorite new discoveries.

If no good came out of 2020 and beyond, and I’m not about to make that claim, there was always music and more time to actually listen than in years prior. It pays to slow life down where you can.

The last time I wrote about Exek I was reeling from the news/realization that the US death toll from Covid-19 had just passed a half million. That was a few months ago and it’s somewhere just under 700,000 now, I think. Those are startling numbers still but…

But what?

Things are opening up again. A lot of people have been vaccinated here in the U.S. We’ll just have to wait and see how it goes. I’ve been forced to let go and give it to The Universe. There are things that are bigger than all of us and we’re all going to have to live with that. I’m headed back in tomorrow for my first full work day in the office. It will be a few days a week there and two home, for now. I’m ready, more or less. There isn’t much choice anyway, unless I hit the lottery. The odds are greater of hitting the Covid-19 Lottery though, or getting hit by a vehicle while crossing the street, so… no use griping. I’m ready.

The plan is to spend as much time as possible today outside in the sun and air. Nothing specific except to be out in the sun.

That’s it.
