World War III Radio: Modern Times (Metropolis) – An Audio/Visual Mix

Of note, this is probably the most intriguing audio-video mix on the whole of the internet right now. It is… immaculate. The Mix Curator has got his craft down.

I’m vibing on this today, somewhere between 6 and 7 am, because why not start early. These wee hours are the only time it’s ever anywhere close to quiet and still, and even then the traffic out on the parkway is going strong. It’s fairly quiet at night but around 5 am it’s like someone flips a lever and the traffic floodgates open releasing a torrent. I don’t even need an alarm anymore. One day I will move somewhere truly quiet and never again know when to wake up and I’ll miss these quiet hours before anyone wakes up. One day that first cup of coffee out of the fresh pot may not be mine.

I’ve been pondering a quote from Alan Watts: The only zen you’ll find on the mountaintop is the zen you bring up there with you.

I’ve found this to be true. Through years of spiritual quest I’ve learned that you find peace where your feet are planted or you just pack up your chaos and bring it along with you to a new locale. The only thing you get from going somewhere else is a change of scenery and that’s a cheap thrill that loses its novelty pretty quickly.

Stand in the place where you are.

Find your peace, or bring bad associations to someplace you may want to visit later with more pure intent… when you’re not fleeing yourself.

Anyway, this video is special. It’s not exactly peaceful. There’s nothing peaceful about Fritz Lang’s vision of the future. How well did he do predicting 2024? Well, it may not look like he envisioned it but he sure got the angst-factor right. It’s fucking tense. Every image is tighter than a high-tension wire.

Am I tense today? Well, a little, to be honest. Why should I be otherwise. There’s a war going on.
