Now, about those robots we were promised…

We can skip the jet-packs and flying car for now, but let’s talk about how much easier all this current COVID-19 business would be if we weren’t in serious jeopardy of having the crisis overwhelm the human resources capable of fighting it. The medical supplies are another story altogether. The reason we’ve never flooded markets with medical supplies is that a surplus would drive prices down and the stock market isn’t going to let that happen.

But let’s talk about those robots. We are right on the brink of of having too little medical staff to deal with the demand. It’s an utterly up-shit-creek scenario. We need those robots and androids yesterday. We need a staff immune to microbial attacks.

We need help.

It’s not like we haven’t been talking about it for 100 years, but technology has been developed more in the interest of killing people than saving people. Here’s a little list of recent portrayals from the fictional realm:
