Small Screen Quarantine – Lords of Flatbush (1974)

It’s been described as a coming of age story, and it technically is, but it’s so hard to see grown ass people playing high school students. That never sits right with me. Call it cognitive dissonance.

What’s funny is that until now I’ve never seen Lords of Flatbush. There was no way to to escape the rest of the greaser era nostalgia from the 70s, from Happy Days to Sha Na Na to Grease (a lot of receding hairlines on high school kids). Somehow though the opportunity never arose to see Lords so maybe it was overdue. It’s a period of pop culture that never held much interest to me outside of the music, Elvis, rockabilly and all that stuff. I wasn’t buying “The Fonz.” Nah, it just didn’t… .do it.

You know what? Not into this at all. Skip Lords and try The Wanderers. Similar story, but a much better movie. Lords of Flatbush was just flat. Lords of Flat. No bush.

Flat.

Bad writing and lazy acting and direction.

Flat.
