Radio Quarantine -Murderer – I Did It All For You (2018)

Stepping outside my usual here, something that maybe matches the roar of snowplows on the pavement outside all night. MURDERER straddles that metal/hardcore divide, definitely not new for a band from New York or anywhere else, but it’s deeper. It’s a deep heavy ambient also, with vocals. You don’t have to listen hard to hear that it’s not really so far outside by usual at all. It’s the mood. It’s the vibe.

Interesting also, from their Bandcamp page. This was a fundraising effort, so if you feel so inclined, the link is on the band name above:

“The proceeds from these LP’s (our last band-copies of the 1st pressing) will be donated to G.L.I.T.S. (Gays and Lesbians Living in a Transgender Society) to support their efforts to purchase 2 buildings in Manhattan, which would provide long-term housing for Black trans folks recently released from Rikers.”

Reading that it struck me hard how fortunate I am. My living situation may not be my ideal, but it’s safe and its warm. Most of my daily anxieties are my own and not from any external forces and pressures. Many people don’t have that privilege. It’s easy to take shit for granted. I’m not talking about fringe populations because the numbers add up. There is a shared thread of vulnerability tying together huge numbers of people who can’t lay their heads down in peace every night. Not everyone goes to bed with full stomachs… and mostly, I can come and go as I please, pretty much anywhere and I’m not a target. Doors don’t close to housing, jobs… to common respect and courtesy.

I’ll climb down off my soapbox now.

Time to work.
